Test the Picture Superiority Effect

Does your brain remember images better than words?

Most people believe they remember words and images equally well. Scientific research shows that images often leave a stronger memory trace.

Take this short challenge and discover how your own brain processes information.

Why does this happen?

The Picture Superiority Effect describes the tendency for people to remember images better than words. Images can activate visual features, meaning and associations at the same time. According to Dual Coding Theory, information can be processed through both verbal and visual systems. When multiple memory traces are created, information may become easier to recognize or retrieve later.

The effect has been observed across many studies, but its strength varies by person, task and context, which also relates to Visual Memory more broadly.

What does this mean for data?

Many organizations still present critical information through long reports, tables and spreadsheets. But data creates impact only when people recognize patterns, understand information and make better decisions.

Raw data rarely changes behaviour. Visual understanding does.

In Why Data Wins, Joachim De Vos shows how leaders can turn data into insight, decisions and measurable impact.

What could better visualization do for your organization?

The difference you just experienced is not only about memory. It also influences how leaders understand information, recognize patterns and make decisions.

Discover how a keynote or executive workshop based on Why Data Wins can help your organization turn data into insight and impact.
